CENTRALIA, IL — Centralia police arrested a 55-year-old Carlyle man Thursday morning for alleged involvement in a burglary in Washington County.

A Washington County resident reportedly interrupted a residential burglary around 7:45 a.m. Thursday where the suspect fled the scene in a silver Chrysler minivan with the resident in pursuit.

The resident followed the suspect into rural Centralia, with a Wamac police officer picking up the pursuit near the John Deere dealership on south U.S. Highway 51.

The officer reported the minivan reached speeds in excess of 100mph on rural roads southeast of Centralia and he eventually lost sight of the subject who was allegedly armed with a small black handgun.

Centralia officers then went to a residence in the 700 block of East Broadway where they had recently had contact with the suspect.

Upon their arrival they noticed a minivan matching the description of the one reported from the burglary and pursuit. Police spotted a man repeatedly exiting the back of the residence. He was ultimately taken into custody.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
