PICKNEYVILLE — A 69-year-old Ava woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a head-on crash between a motorcycle and truck in Perry County.

According to Illinois State Police, Terese Baird was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by 67-year-old Byrlie Baird, also of Ava.

Reports say the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Route 127 at Matthews Road when it collided with a pickup driven by 41-year-old Isaac Gurley, of Herrin, as he was passing another northbound vehicle in a no-passing zone on a curve.

Byrlie Baird and passenger Terese Baird were both thrown off the cycle during impact. Terese Baird was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner. Byrlie Baird was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.

Gurley was uninjured but was cited for passing in a no-passing zone.

The crash remains under investigation.
