MCLEANSBORO — The Hamilton County Unit 10 school district is currently building a new district office near the high school in McLeansboro.
Superintendent Jeff Fetcho says over the years, repairs have been made to the current district office at 117 North Washington that at one time served as a funeral home. Fetcho says this new facility will be one story and more operationally functional than what the district has now.
Once the decision was made to build the facility, Fetcho says the search for a location began and the school district purchased a piece of property from IDOT at the corner of Illinois 142 and Golf Course Road in McLeansboro. He explains why that location was chosen.
Fetcho says the exterior of the building was recently finished. Work will now move indoors where students from the high school’s construction classes will assist licensed contractors with things such as hanging drywall, pulling electrical wire, HVAC work and so forth. The school district is paying for the project using coal mine revenue and money from the one percent sales tax.
Fetcho says they would like to have all work done on the new district office by the end of fall semester with hopes of moving in during Christmas break or after the first of the New Year. If work is not progressing enough for that move in date to happen, Fetcho says it could be anywhere from January to spring break before the move happens. He says the district doesn’t want to be in a hurry about getting the job done. The school district plans to sell the current district office building after the move is made.
