MT. VERNON — An Irvington woman is in the Jefferson County Jail after Mt. Vernon Police were called to a storage facility to a report of a theft in progress early Wednesday morning.

Police received the call at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday to the reported incident at the U-Store-It facility on Veterans Memorial Drive on Mt. Vernon’s south side. When police arrived, 51-year-old Kristi Minnix tried to discard a bag and flee police by backing out and away from officers in her vehicle. She could not get away from police, and police put Minnix into custody.

Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page says as the investigation progressed overnight, police located Sudafed based pills on her person. They also found syringes and ammunition in the bag Minnix attempted to get rid of. A quantity of meth was found inside her vehicle.

Police obtained a search warrant for the storage units Minnix was in later Wednesday morning and found firearms in the units.

Minnix was originally taken into custody on charges of attempting to flee / elude an officer, illegal possession of ammunition / FOID, manufacturing / delivery of between 10 and 30 grams of meth, possession of hypodermic syringe / needles / etc., and possession of drug paraphernalia. Page says with the firearms being recovered from the storage unit, more charges are possible.
