ILLINOIS (RFD) — If you are hoping for a fall harvest with things like lettuce, kale, spinach, and other leafy greens, now is the time to get those in the ground. If you act quickly, you could have a fast turnaround for a decent harvest during the fall months.

Master Gardener at the University of Illinois Extension Office, Candace Hart says you can also throw some root crops into the mix.

According to Hart, advanced gardeners will create a greenhouse effect and extend the life of their garden. Otherwise, everything is at the mercy of the first frost of the fall.

If you had to bring any trees down or are looking to add trees to your property, Hart says this is also a good time to plant those too.
