Rep. Bost’s Take on Wal-Mart Gun Stance

Rep. Bost’s Take on Wal-Mart Gun Stance

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (RFD) — Illinois Congressman Mike Bost says Walmart’s decision to stop selling virtually all ammunition and publicly request that customers not openly carrying firearms in stores – even where state laws allow it – is well within their right. The company’s decision comes on the heels of a mass shooting that claimed seven lives in Odessa, Texas and follows two other back-to-back shootings last month – one of them at a Walmart store.

But, he says the company’s new policy doesn’t address what he believes is the cause of most gun deaths in America – mental illness.

Walmart’s moves will reduce its market share of ammunition from around 20% to a range of between 6% and 9%, according to Tuesday’s announcement. About half of its more than 4,000 U.S. stores sell firearms.
