Eugene Charles Fall, 100, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, Illinois.
He was born February 17, 1919, in Hazleton, Iowa, the son of Charles and Osa (Keifer) Fall. On Feb. 11, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he married Phyllis Reed, and she preceded him in death on January 31, 2015.
Mr. Fall served with the United States Army and the British Commandos during World War II in Africa, Italy, and Ireland. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, serving in intelligence as a non-commissioned officer. After the war he graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa and Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed square dancing, golf, music, his church, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Shelley Soger and husband Randy, and Jan McKernan and husband Mike; five grandchildren, Brie (McKernan) Milligan and husband Ryan, Nicole McKernan, Brandi (Soger) Palmer and husband Alex, Kalen Soger, and Dakota Soger; and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Fall; his parents, Charles and Osa Fall; and one brother, George Fall.
