MT. VERNON — Bail has been set at $75,000 for a 27-year-old Mt. Vernon man charged in Jefferson County court Thursday with being an armed habitual criminal.
Terrance D. Williams was arrested early Thursday morning when Mt. Vernon police performed a traffic stop on his vehicle in the 600 block of Lamarand reportedly discovered a loaded 9 mm handgun inside.
Williams was taken into custody without incident.
He was paroled in July from the Illinois Department of Corrections where he was being held on concurrent 8-year terms out of Jefferson County for residential burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm with a prior conviction.
In addition to the Class X felony charge of being an armed habitual criminal being filed against Williams Thursday, a Class 2 felony charge was also filed for being a felon in possession of a firearm with a prior conviction.
In 2010 he was sentenced in Cook County court to seven years in prison on a Class X felony armed robbery conviction.
According to Police Chief Trent Page, IDOC has issued a violation warrant for Williams.
He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with his next court date set for October 2.
