BENTON — Mike Andrews is no longer Benton’s interim police chief.

The Benton City Council Monday night removed the interim portion off the title and made Andrews police chief permanently.

According to another media outlet, the council gave Andrews a four-year contract and his salary will be $70,000 a year with an additional $5,000 per years to serve as the city’s forensics officer. We contacted City Hall earlier this week about this information, but our call was not returned.

Andrews was named interim police chief in late June when Kyle Melvin resigned as police chief to become a detective at the police department.
