Autopsy scheduled Thursday on dead body found in vacant Centralia home

CENTRALIA — Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon is asking for the public’s assistance with their investigation after the discovery of a dead body Tuesday in an abandoned Centralia home.

Cannon asks those who may have known of any missing persons in the past couple weeks to contact the Centralia Police Department Investigations Division at 533-7602.

Cannon says a forensic autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to determine gender, identity, and cause of death.

According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, around 4:22 p.m. Tuesday, his department received a report that a deceased individual had been located in a vacant residence in the 1000 block of East Cormick.

Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services processed the scene and continues to assist Centralia PD and the coroner’s office in the investigation.

Cannon says the investigation is ongoing, noting that the coroner’s office and/or Centralia PD will provide updates if appropriate as the investigation unfolds.

No further information will be released at this time.
