CENTRALIA — A 15-year-old Centralia juvenile male was sentenced Wednesday in Marion County to 30 days in the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice for his role the May shooting death in his home of Jaden Krauss.

The older son of Nicole Kirgan, who is charged with obstruction and intimidation of a witness in the Krauss case, the teen pleaded guilty Wednesday to an obstruction charge and was sentenced to 30-days to be served along with a 5-year sentence handed down last month on convictions for burglary of St. Mary Catholic School in Centralia.

The teen has been held in juvenile detention since July 2, when Centralia police arrested him and his 13-year-old brother on obstruction charges stemming from Krauss’ shooting death.

Prosecutors say the siblings, along with a 15-year-old male convicted of shooting Krauss in the head, gave police false information when they arrived at the Kirgan home in response to Krauss’ shooting. The teen who admitted to shooting Krauss has been sentenced to 5-years in juvenile detention.

Court documents say the brothers moved Krauss from an upstairs bedroom where he was shot to the front porch of the home in the 100 block of South Pine in Centralia, removed a rug and cleaned up blood from the bedroom, and also disposed of the gun used to shoot Krauss.

Testimony also said the teen was seen on video carrying a gun on the day Krauss was shot and was later seen telling juveniles to get the guns from his home in the 100 block of Pine Street in Centralia.

While those firearms were later taken to his paternal grandmother’s home, she testified that she doesn’t know where the gun that shot Krauss is located.

Centralia police have reportedly searched her home and didn’t find the weapon but they have continued to search for the gun.

Kirgan’s younger son accompanied officers and dive teams on an unsuccessful search for the gun in a local lake. He was sentenced to 5 years probation and time served for his role in the Krauss shooting.
