JEFFERSON COUNTY — Several police agencies were involved in pursuit Sunday evening that stretched from Johnson County to Jefferson County and at times reached speeds on Interstate 57 in excess of 100 mph.
Reports say spike strips were deployed, and while they successfully disabled the suspect vehicle, they also reportedly disabled a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office squad car.
All three female suspects inside the car were arrested just north of Ina when the car finally stopped. One suspect took law enforcement on a brief foot pursuit from the crash scene before being apprehended.
Occupants of the vehicle are believed to have been involved in a felony theft earlier Sunday. The vehicle also reportedly matched the description of a car involved in an armed robbery last week in Paducah, Kentucky. A child was also reportedly in the car during the multi-county chase.
The three women arrested 21-year-old Crystal Davis and 28-year-old Taneshia Winfield both of Cahokia, and 18-year-old Marshaila Orange of East St. Louis. All three women are facing charges of aggravated fleeing police 21+ mph over speed limit, child endangerment, and resisting / obstructing a peace officer. Winfield is also charged with driver’s license expired for more than a year and improper use of a registration or title. Orange was also arrested on a probable cause warrant.
All three suspects were taken to the Jefferson County Jail where they remain awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
