MT. VERNON — A 19-year-old Mt. Vernon man and three juveniles were arrested early Wednesday morning in connection with a house fire in the 700 block of South 21st Street in Mt. Vernon.
According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, they responded with the Mt. Vernon Fire Department around 1:19 a.m. to a report of the side of a house set on fire.
The resident was reportedly unable to extinguish the flames.
An arson investigation was then initiated and officers reportedly discovered an item set on fire that was thrown at the house where the siding caught on fire.
Through further investigation suspects were identified. Officers responded to a known area for the suspects and took one adult and three juveniles into custody.
The adult, Cortez Johnson was arrested for Aggravated Arson and was taken the Jefferson County Jail, pending bond to be set by a judge.
The three juveniles were released pending further investigation.
