MARION COUNTY — A 38-year-old Marion County man was sentenced Thursday in Marion County court to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one of two charges accusing him of sexually assaulting a child.

Richard Finley

Richard K. Finley is already serving a 7-year prison sentence on a 2014 charge of felony disposal of methamphetamine manufacturing waste.

He began serving that sentence in October 2018, but the investigation into the sexual assault of a child was already underway at that time.

Finley pleaded guilty Thursday to Class X felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 in exchange for a Class 1 felony charge of criminal sexual assault of a family member under the age of 18 being dismissed. Also dismissed per the plea agreement was a 2018 misdemeanor charge of violating an order of protection.

IDOC online records had anticipated Finley to be released to parole on the meth conviction in September but Thursday’s sentence will keep him in prison to begin serving the new term.
