SALEM — Two men are in the Marion County Jail Monday following their arrests Sunday for alleged burglary of a Salem florist.

According to Salem police, they arrested 19-year-old Matthew Whiting, of Salem, and 20-year-old Jeremiah Meyer, of Kinmundy, early Sunday morning while responding just before 4:30 a.m. Sunday to a burglary in progress call at Paradise Flowers.

A Marion County Sheriff’s deputy was the first to arrive at the scene and spotted a man running across the parking lot.

He stopped the man now identified as Whiting. Meyer reportedly returned to the scene later and admitted his involvement.

Salem police report forced entry was made to the flower shop and change was reportedly missing from the cash register.

Both subjects were taken to the Marion County Jail and were each formally charged Monday in Marion County court with Class 2 felony burglary.
