CLAY COUNTY — Bail has been set at $1 million for a 69-year-old Flora man charged in Clay County court with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault in one case and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in an earlier case.

James A. Tomasek was arrested June 27 on the initial weapons charge and was taken to the Clay County Jail with bail set at $250,000.

Then on July 15 Tomasek was charged with the two Class X felony sexual assault charges. Those charges were the result of an investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield Police Department, the Department of Children and Family Services, as well as the Clay County State’s Attorney’s Office. His bail was then increased at $1 million for both cases combined.

Tomasek is next due in court July 22 for a preliminary hearing and first appearance with his court appointed attorney. If he’s able to post bond, Tomasek is prohibited from having contact with anyone under the age of 17.
