JEFFERSON COUNTY — Mt. Vernon and Jefferson County authorities arrested two men Tuesday in connection with burglaries in the area.

According to Mt. Vernon Police, over the last week and a half, their detectives have been investigating burglaries in the area along with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Detective Division.

During the investigations, detectives were able to identify two persons of interest and develop probable cause to arrest them.

Around 10:48 a.m. Tuesday, Mt Vernon Police Department detectives and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department deputies and detectives located 18-year-old Kadin Gulley and 18-year-old Alexander Williams, at a residence in the 5500 block of Dix Irvington Road.

Gulley reportedly attempted to run from the residence but was confronted by officers outside. He then reportedly ran back into the residence and attempted to barricade himself in a bathroom.

Williams was also located hiding inside the residence and both Gulley and Williams were taken into custody. Gulley was also reportedly found to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug equipment.

Gulley and Williams are each charged with one count of burglary stemming from a burglary of Showcase Home Furnishings, 1121 Veterans Memorial Drive, on July 12th, 2019.

Gulley and Williams are also both charged with a second count of burglary stemming from a residential burglary of a home in the 1000 block of South 25th of June 26th, 2019.

In addition to the burglary, Gulley was charged with resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug equipment. Williams has an additional count of resisting arrest.

During the investigation, detectives located several items of stolen property that were taken during recent burglaries in the Summersville area. These burglaries are currently under investigation and additional charges are expected.
