MARION COUNTY — Defense and prosecution in the Marion County case accusing a 51-year-old Centralia man with allegedly pointing a gun at a Centralia police officer confirmed Tuesday they’re prepared for an August 12 jury trial date.

Robert Manley is charged with Class X felony armed violence, and three Class 3 felonies – two for being a felon in possession of a firearm and one for possession of meth.

The incident reportedly occurred the night of May 3, 2019, in a car outside the east side Casey’s Store.

Manley was arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at an officer before getting out of the car with the weapon and attempting to flee on foot.

A brief foot chase ensued, during which Manley apparently dropped or threw the gun.  Manley was then Tased by the officer who was able to take him into custody without further incident.

The gun Manley pointed at the officer was apparently loaded and another gun was allegedly found in his vehicle.

Manley reportedly told the officer he would have shot him, but he couldn’t get the gun out of the holster.

Manley is a registered sex offender for a sex crime conviction in Tennessee.
