JACKSON COUNTY — A Murphysboro man was recently sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on a methamphetamine violation.

According to federal court records, James E. Sizemore, who is also known as “Jimmy,” pleaded guilty back in January to a one-count indictment charging conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Evidence at the plea and sentencing hearings established that Sizemore was involved with several people in the distribution of methamphetamine in Jackson County.

On Nov. 14, 2017, Sizemore sold methamphetamine to a confidential source working for law enforcement. At sentencing, the judge found that Sizemore was responsible for the distribution of more than 1.4 kilograms of ice, which is methamphetamine with a purity level of at least 80 percent. The offense happened between June 2016 and November 2017.

Sizemore’s sentence includes three years of supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Carbondale Police Department. The Jackson County States Attorney’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
