CENTRAL CITY — A woman and her two children became stranded in floodwaters Thursday afternoon when the van they were in couldn’t make it across a flooded road east of Central City.

With help from Central City Police and Centralia Collision, the three were able to walk through water from their stalled mini-van on Brick Hill Road to dry land.

Both Brick Hill Road and Gragg Street were closed due to flooding after the City of Centralia opened floodgates Thursday on Raccoon Lake.

The mini-van was towed out of the water and the floodgate was closed following the rescue.

Reports indicate, however, that the floodwaters were still rising on Brick Hill Road as the tow crew was working to rescue the family and tow their vehicle from the water.
