MT. VERNON — The city of Mt. Vernon is wrapping up the replacement of hundreds of street lights in the city thanks to an Ameren program allowing the city to purchase the bulbs at a greatly discounted rate.

Tina Gibbs is the Community Relations Coordinator with Ameren. She says towns of all sizes have gotten involved with this program.

Mt. Vernon mayor John Lewis says the program is a win-win for the city.

The Mt. Vernon City Council voted Monday to apply again in the second round of applications for an LED grant from Ameren because of how happy they have been with the first round of the light replacement.
