MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon City Council approved another step in the water and sewer infrastructure improvement process Monday night when they approved a bid to conduct a sanitary sewer investigation survey on the city’s northeast side near Optimist Park.
One bidder, Visu-Sewer out of St. Louis, earned the bid at just under $247-thousand. The city had anticipated the survey to cost $300-thousand. The survey will help the city evaluate the condition of sewer lines in the area, along with grading their condition and prioritizing the work that needs to be done in the area.
Also at Monday’s meeting, the city approved a $40,000 bid from Round Table Design in Mt. Vernon for the 12th Street overlay and box culvert replacement design.
The council heard first readings of ordinances involving the zoning of possible cannabis related businesses in Mt. Vernon, along with changes to the liquor license classifications, permits and fees. Among the changes in the liquor ordinances are adding a movie theater license and changing Sunday hours from noon to 10 p.m. to 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Both those ordinances will have second readings at Mt. Vernon’s next city council meeting, scheduled for July 15th at 7 p.m. at the Rolland Lewis Building at Veteran’s Park.
