SALEM — The Salem Police Department has announced the implementation of the FACT Duty Weapon-Mounted Camera Tuesday, July 2 at the Salem City Hall.
A joint news conference will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Viridian Weapon Technologies in the council chambers.
Chief of Police Sean Reynolds and officials from Minnesota-based Viridian will give a short overview on the process, why the decision was made and the impact of the new technology.
Salem joins dozens of agencies in the country that have implemented Viridian WMCs.
The FACT Duty fits standard police duty weapons and holsters and records automatically as the officer draws their weapon, and provides an unobstructed view from the end of an officer’s firearm.
It provides an unobstructed view of critical use-of-force events from the end of the firearm and generates significantly less data than body cameras. Over 500 other departments are also in the process of testing and deploying across the nation.
