MT. VERNON — A 31-year-old Mt. Vernon man was taken into custody Thursday on a federal warrant and in connection with a shooting in Mt. Vernon.
According to the Mt Vernon Police Department, they received information Thursday that federal fugitive Myron T Seigart, also known as Gus, was located inside a residence at 317 North Fifth Street in Mt Vernon.
Seigart also had a Jefferson County warrant for his arrest in connection with a shooting that had occurred in Mt Vernon.
Members of the Mt Vernon Police Department, Mt Vernon Police Department K9 Division, United States Secret Service and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to the residence to form a perimeter.
Upon the officer’s arrival no contact was able to make with Seigart. Officer’s remained on scene and began requesting Seigart’s surrender via a PA system.
The Mt Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High Risk Team was activated to assist.
Upon making entry into the residence, Seigart was found hiding in a dryer.
Seigart was taken into custody on a bench warrant from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. There is no bond on this warrant.
Seigart was also charged with the Jefferson County warrant charging him with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Armed Habitual Offender. Bail on the Jefferson County warrant was set at $500,000.
This was warrant was in connection with a shooting that occurred on May 26th, 2019 in the 900 block of South 21st in Mt Vernon. One person was shot during and suffered non-life threatening injuries in that incident.
Seigart is charged in Jefferson County court with Class X aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm, Class 1 aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied building, and Class X armed habitual criminal.
