WHITE COUNTY — The last of three inmates who escaped from the White County Jail last June was sentenced Wednesday in White County to five years and nine months in the Illinois Department of Corrections for escape, a class 2 felony.
White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud says 29-year-old Justin M. Bray will also serve two years of mandatory supervised release after he gets out of prison.
Bray, along with Zachery Shock and Johnny Tipton, broke out of the White County Jail in Carmi during the early morning hours of June 16, 2018. They reportedly used a pipe to break through the jail wall. Law enforcement from White and Hamilton counties began searching for the escaped inmates.
Bray was taken back into custody in White County shortly following the jail break. Shock and Tipton were both caught a few weeks later. Shock was found in Gallatin County, while Tipton was found in Hardin County.
The White County Sheriff’s Department was the lead investigating agency with several other agencies from around the area participating.
