MT. VERNON — A Jefferson County jury found a 32-year-old Mt. Vernon man guilty Thursday of two counts predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13.

Jonathan R. Bieniek has remained in the Jefferson County Jail since his January arrest on the two Class X felony charges, with bail set at $200,000.

Jurors in the case were selected Tuesday and opening arguments delivered Wednesday. The jury was handed the case Thursday and returned a verdict of guilty on both counts before noon.

An arrest warrant was secured for Bieniek following an investigation led by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department detectives that was opened December 7, 2018.

He’ll remain in the Jefferson County Jail until he’s handed over to the Department of Corrections.

Sentencing in the case is scheduled for July 18. A Class X felony is punishable by between 6 and 30 years in prison.
