BENTON — The Benton City Council Tuesday night approved ordinances for Sunday Hours Liquor Licenses and Gaming Parlor Liquor Licenses.

City Clerk Brook Craig says Sunday hours are available for all liquor license holders at a fee of $1,200 per year. Gaming Parlor licenses, Class I, were approved. There will be 9 license available and the fee is $1,350

In other business, the city council approved advertising for the position of water clerk/deputy city clerk, awarded a bid of $32,690 from Erwin Builders for a new roof at the fire department, approved a one-year contract with M.O.S.T. Pest Service for mosquito abatement, established Benton City Hall as an emergency heating/cooling center when necessary between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and an alternate location is being sought for after hours, and approved the street closure for the upcoming Farm City Days Parade and Celebration. No decision was made on using Benton City Park for Fall Fest on Oct. 26. The council will vote on this at a later date.

As for the fire chief’s contract and amending the job title/contract for the city’s public information coordinator, those items will be discussed during a continuation of the city council’s meeting Friday morning at 8. Craig says the public information coordinator’s title will be changed to community relations director and the contract/ordinance for the job will be discussed Friday.
