BENTON — A Benton man is facing alcohol-related charges following a two-vehicle crash in Benton Monday night.

Benton Police Chief Kyle Melvin says Benton Police and Fire, West City Police, Abbott EMS and Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of South Main and Wastena Street at 7:45 p.m.

Based on the investigation, a northbound SUV, driven by 22-year-old Skylar L. Pendergast of Benton, traveled into oncoming traffic on South Main striking a van with two occupants. The impact caused the van to spin and turn onto its side. Both occupants of the van were extricated by Benton Fire.  The driver of the van was transported by ambulance and the passenger was airlifted from the scene.  Both are now reported to be in stable condition.

Pendergast was charged with driving under the influence and illegal transportation of alcoholic liquor. He was taken to the Franklin County Jail.  Additional charges are pending.
