MARION COUNTY — A 23-year-old Brownstown man has pleaded guilty in Marion County court to one of three charges against him stemming from a crash on U.S. 51 that claimed the life of an Odin man.

Ryan Feezel was charged in connection with a July 2016 traffic crash that claimed the life of Kevin Koenegstein.

Feezel was subsequently charged with Class 2 felony aggravated DUI resulting in a crash involving a death, Class 2 felony reckless homicide, and Class 4 felony aggravated DUI resulting in a crash involving bodily harm.

On Thursday Feezel pleaded guilty to the Class 3 reckless homicide charge in exchange for the Class 2 and Class 4 charges being dismissed. A sentencing hearing in the case is scheduled for July 25, pending the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation.
A Class 3 felony is punishable by 2 to 5 years in prison, or a maximum 30 months probation.

Feezel was initially charged with improper lane usage following the crash.

He later filed an appeal in Marion County Court after an oversight enabled him to plead guilty to the traffic charge before criminal charges had been filed.

The Appellate Court rejected his appeal and remanded the case back to Marion County for prosecution.
