MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon police are investigating the reported robbery of an east-side bank Monday morning.

According to reports, around 9:50 a.m., MVPD received a call of a bank robbery at the People’s National Bank in the 500 block of Main Street.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his early 20s, approximately 5-feet four-inches tall, wearing a black hoodie and black jeans.

He gestured as if he had a weapon, but none was displayed. He was last seen walking northbound on Sixth Street from Broadway.

Mt Vernon Police Detectives, Mt Vernon Patrol Officers, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area and scene. A Mt Vernon Police Department Crime Scene Technician also responded to the scene to process the scene for evidence. The FBI has joined the investigation.
