MT. VERNON — The location of the new post office facility in Mt. Vernon has remained somewhat of a secret to the public from the United States Postal Service due to certain regulations.

However, USPS recently sent correspondence to the council asking the contractor to certify there was no asbestos or lead paint in the new facility. The issue is currently, there is no building. And because the government hasn’t approved the location, there is no contractor either.

Mayor John Lewis addressed the issue at Monday night’s meeting.

The current post office is looking to be moved because of the redevelopment agreement between the city and Milano Metals for the Park Plaza property.
