JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jefferson & Kell Fire Protection districts responded Monday afternoon to a remote railroad trestle bridge on fire just south of Dix/Texico Road.

Salem firefighters provided mutual assistance at the scene that had to be accessed by off-road vehicles.

When firefighters arrived the bridge was fully engulfed in flames. Photos from the scene after the blaze show the rails twisted from the heat.

The tracks were damaged and rail traffic will be detoured until they’re repaired. No injuries were reported but the state fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
