ILLINOIS (RFD) — You will soon have to be 21 to buy tobacco in Illinois. Governor JB Pritzker signed that new law this weekend. The push towards Tobacco 21 took a few years but gained bipartisan support this year when more Republicans came along to support the issue. The new law covers buying e-cigarettes and vaping products. House Minority Leader Republican Jim Durkin says he came a long way to support raising the legal age to buy tobacco.

Illinois is the 8th state in the nation to become a tobacco 21 state but the first in the Midwest. The law takes effect on July 1st.
