MT. VERNON/SALEM/CENTRALIA — Election day is today and polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.
There are 3 contested races in Mt. Vernon with the school boards at Mt. Vernon Township High School and Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80. The third contested race is for a seat on the Mt. Vernon City Council.
The candidates running for MVTHS school board are; Jonathon Ashby, Tina Elliot, Matthew Flanigan, Terry Knowles, and Lora Mellott Greathouse.
City Schools candidates include; David Edwards, Merle Hollman and Kent Jackson.
Donte Moore, Raymond Botch and Mike McDonough are the candidates running for Mt. Vernon City Council.
Candidates seeking election for Centralia City Council are William C. (Bill) Smith, Nicholas “Nick” Heath, David Sauer, and Robert “Spanky” Smith. The write-in candidate that registered with the county election officials for Councilman is: William Harrell.
Centralia Mayoral Candidates seeking election are: Vernell Burris, Bryan A. Kuder, Thomas J. Henegar, and Howard Jones.
In Salem, Jim Koehler, Ed Guinn, and Paul Albert are vying for the same seat in Salem, while Neal Canon, Thadeus Freed, Nicolas Farley and Craig Morton are seeking one of two seats available on the Salem City Council.
A less than 12-percent turnout is expected.
