MVPD numerous weekend meth arrests attributed to “proactive” patrol officers

MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon police arrested numerous people over the weekend on felony meth-related charges, with one individual being charged with Class X felony delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of methamphetamine.

Assistant Police Chief Robert Brands says the arrests were not part of a long-term operation, but of patrol officers being proactive and making drug arrests.

On Saturday they arrested a 25-year-old Mt. Vernon man for meth delivery. Alexander Laur was formally charged in Jefferson County court Tuesday with Class X felony delivery 15 and 100 grams of meth. Laur’s bail has been set at $100,000.

On Friday, officers arrested a 33-year-old Christopher man following a traffic stop. Nicholas Parks has been formally charged in Jefferson County court with Class 2 felony possession of less than 15 grams of meth.

On Saturday, 29-year-old Jamie Roberts, of Mt. Vernon, was arrested. Roberts has been formally charged with Class 2 felony delivery of less than 5 grams of meth, Class 3 felony possession of less than 5 grams of meth, and Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance.

Police arrested 24-year-old Skylar Beppler, of Ina, Friday. Beppler has been charged in court with Class 3 felony possession of less than 5-grams of meth.

A 24-year-old Mt. Vernon man, Ronald Mount, was arrested Sunday and has been charged in court with two counts Class 3 felony possession of less than 5 grams of meth, while 43-year-old James Randle, of Nashville, Illinois was arrested Sunday and charged in court with one count Class 3 felony possession of less than 5 grams of meth.

Police also arrested 26-year-old Zayveance Harbor, of Mt. Vernon Sunday. Harbor has been charged with Class 3 felony possession of less than 5 grams of meth, as has 28-year-old Zachery Stumbaugh, of Springfield, Illinois. Stumbaugh was arrested Monday.
