JACKSON COUNTY — Route 51 just north of Truax Traer Road in rural Elkville was shut down for two hours Monday afternoon due to a two-vehicle injury crash.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, around 2:45 a vehicle going south, driven by Kesha N. Eaton, was hit when another vehicle going north, driven by Alexander N. Sauer, entered the southbound lane.
Three people were injured in the crash. One occupant from each vehicle involved had to be extricated. Rescue efforts were conducted by the Elkville, DeSoto and Murphysboro-Pomona-Somerset Fire Departments.
Paramedics from the Jackson County Ambulance Service responded. A nearby ambulance from the Perry County Ambulance Service also helped. One of the victims was flown to an Evansville, Indiana hospital.
The extent of the injuries sustained by the occupants are not known at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
