MT. VERNON — Bail has been set at $250,000 for a 37-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail in connection with a shooting early Saturday morning that sent one person to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Carlos R. Lewis was arrested by Mt. Vernon police Saturday on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm, and several traffic violations.
According to Mt. Vernon police, around 2:43 a.m. Saturday, they responded along with Litton’s Ambulance to a report of a person shot at 417 South 17th.
One person, suffering from non life threatening injuries, was transported from the scene to a local hospital. Mt Vernon Police Detectives and a Mt Vernon Crime Scene Technician were called in to assist with the investigation.
Detectives were able to identify Lewis as a person of interest. Officers were able to locate Lewis and take him into custody during a traffic stop at 17th and Veterans Memorial Drive.
With the assistance of the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office, a search warrant was secured for Lewis’s residence, 1101 South 13th.
After further investigation, Lewis was placed under arrest and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
