MARION — Some construction work will be taking place inside Marion City Hall soon.
The Marion City Council Monday night approved making some changes to the north side of the City Council Chambers. The glass walls that are there now will be replaced with soundproofing and a stone façade that is bullet resistant. Similar work will also be done to the wall between the hallway and the office. That’s according to the Southern Illinoisan.
The water office will get a new counter design that will bring it up to ADA compliance. It will also improve the security of private information and adds a work station.
The city will spend a total of $31,760 on the projects. Changes to the City Council Chambers will cost $9,900 and $21,860 will be spend making changes to the water office. Work will be done after hours and on the weekends in order to not affect business.
