CARBONDALE — The Carbondale Park District Board of Commissioners are set to formalize tonight the relationship between the Carbondale Park District and the non-profit volunteer organization Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks that will lead to a new dog park being built in Carbondale.
Park District Commisioners approved the organization’s site plan in June, and the formal contract will allow it to move forward with construction on the city’s first public dog park.
The dog park will enclose two-and-a-half acres at Parrish Park, adjacent to the Life Community Center on West Sunset Drive. This public facility will have sections for small and large dogs, water fountains, a shelter, benches, dog waste disposal facilities and will be ADA friendly.
The city will install water lines and concrete pads at the entrance and under the shelter and water fountains, and the John A. Logan carpentry class plans to build the shelter. All other construction costs will be raised by the organization. Once built, all the improvements will become the property of the Park District.
Tonight’s meeting starts at 5:30 at the Carbondale Civic Center on South Illinois Avenue. You’re invited to attend.
