A West Frankfort man was killed in a hit and run crash early Saturday morning on Route 37 near the intersection of Commerce Lane in Benton.

Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones says it’s believed that 47-year-old Jack J. Brown, Jr. was walking south on Route 37 sometime after 1:55 a.m. Brown was discovered by a passing utility worker at 7:40 a.m.

Jones says at this preliminary stage of the investigation, it is believed that the vehicle involved is black in color. Detectives are working to further identify the vehicle and are asking for your help in identifying the vehicle and driver.
