The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a lane and 10-foot load width restriction on the U.S. 51/60/62 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge between Cairo and Wickliffe, Kentucky the week of Aug. 6 and Aug. 20.
According to KYTC spokesperson Keith Todd, the restriction will allow for a detailed inspection of the bridge structure and so an Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle and other equipment can be used for the inspection. Climbers will also be used to inspect the bridge truss structure.
The first round of inspection work will start Monday and run through Friday, Aug. 10. You should be prepared to encounter one lane traffic and a strict 10 ft. load width restriction between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. next week.
The inspection team will take the week of August 13 off. There will be no restrictions on bridge traffic. Farmers and others with oversized loads will be allowed to cross.
The inspection team plans to return to the bridge on Aug. 20 and work through Friday, Aug. 24. Activities during this second week of inspection work will include a lane and a strict 10 ft. load width restriction between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. that week.
