A 19-year-old Salem woman is facing nearly 20 citations after she was cited by two separate agencies Sunday night in Vandalia.

According to Vandalia police, they received a call around 9 p.m. Sunday night about a female who appeared possibly intoxicated was sitting in a truck parked in the lot east of 507 West Orchard Street.

Upon his arrival, the officer reportedly found Hailey M. Budde, who yelled that she could not go back to jail. Budde then sped off in the truck going north bound on 5th Street.

The Vandalia officer attempted to stop Budde, but she reportedly ran multiple stop signs and the officer turned off his lights and sirens, but maintained visual contact of the Budde vehicle, which reportedly was reaching speeds of at least 80 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone.

Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies then began their own pursuit of the vehicle and the Vandalia PD officer was able to assist when the vehicle was stopped in the 1300 block of Johnson Street.

Following Budde’s arrest, deputies found the truck she was driving had allegedly been stolen from a repair shop in Bluff City.

She was taken into custody and was transported to the Fayette County Jail where she remains after being formally charged in court Tuesday with Class 2 felony possession of a stolen vehicle, Class 3 felony theft and criminal damage, Class 4 felony aggravated fleeing, and misdemeanor criminal damage, as well as possession of a hypodermic syringe.

She’s also been issued nearly 20 citations for various traffic violations such as failing to obey a traffic control device, speeding, fleeing/eluding, and reckless driving.
