The West City Village Board will hold a special meeting Tuesday night at 6 to discuss the First Responders program the board ended earlier this month.

The First Responders program, which recently began, allowed local firefighters to respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid for people within West City.

Several residents expressed their concerns about the board’s decision to stop the program at the last West City Village Board meeting. The village’s deputy fire chief said at that meeting the First Responders program had saved lives over the past few months and it should be restored saying it is of utmost importance to residents in West City. A petition with 500 signatures was also presented to the board asking for the program to be restored.

Mayor Ron House said the program was only temporary when asked about it at the last meeting. He could not comment about it any further by law because the topic was not on the meeting’s agenda. He said if the board wanted to hold a special meeting about the program, they could hold one.

Again the meeting is set for Tuesday night at 6 at the West City Village Hall.
