The State Department of Transportation is awarding 36 million dollars in federal grants to Illinois communities.

The money is available through i-dot’s transportation enhancement program…funding things like bike paths and walking trails says spokesperson Gianna Urgo.

The money will fund 53 projects across Illinois.

Locally, West Frankfort will get $10,400 for its downtown streetscape project, Herrin will receive $20,000 for its streetscaping and pedestrian safety improvement project and John A. Logan College in Carterville will see $440,000 for its multi-use bike trail.
