A Pittsburg man died after falling to his death Sunday at Ferne Clyffe State Park in Johnson County.

According to Williamson County Coroner Mike “Junior” Burke, 22-year-old Charles D. Gill apparently lost his footing while standing on the edge of a large waterfall area and fell 60 feet to his death.

Gill was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion where he was pronounced dead just after 6:30 p.m.

The accident is under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Williamson County Coroner’s Office.
