Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday in a Christopher man’s murder trial.
Brian Pheasant is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Beth Pheasant, at their home in Christopher on Halloween night in 2016. Pheasant was taken into custody a couple of days later and pled not guilty.
During a pre-trial conference Thursday in Benton, both sides in the case told Judge Tom Tedeschi they could not see any more issues or motions that would be made before the trial starts.
Tedeschi said in court that during Tuesday’s jury selection, he wanted to limit prospective spectators. That means he wants to ensure that possible jurors were not exposed to people involved with the trial. That’s according to the Southern Illinoisan.
Both sides feel the trial will go longer than a week.
Pheasant’s trial has been pushed back a few times since the original February 2017 date due to some issues regarding the case including DNA testing of the murder weapon and Pheasant’s psychiatric evaluation.
The court finally settled on the May 8 trial date.
