A Harrisburg man was sentenced Wednesday in Saline County Circuit Court on methamphetamine charges.
According to Saline County State’s Attorney Jayson Clark, 30-year-old Zachary A. Russel was sentenced to six years in state prison with one year of mandatory supervised release. He had previously entered a plea of guilty to a Class 3 felony charge of methamphetamine possession.
Class 3 felonies are normally subject to a sentence of between two and five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. However, an authorized extended term sentence was imposed on Russel.
On March 22 of this year, the Saline County State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges against Russel arising out of an incident in which Russel was found in possession of less than 5 grams of methamphetamine.
The investigation of Russel’s case was led by Sgt. Michael Riden of the Harrisburg Police Department. State’s Attorney, Jayson Clark, led the successful prosecution of Russel.
