Bonding companies are saying the coming budget process in Springfield is extremely important for the state’s creditworthiness. An analyst at S&P Global Ratings added that an election year usually does not make the process easier. He went on to say there has been no sign the political battle between Governor Rauner and Democrat leadership that led to the budget impasse had eased.
As the spring legislative session nears the final 30 day mark, State Representative Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) said in an interview this week it is frustrating that there are members of the General Assembly who continue to want to spend money the state doesn’t have.
However, rank and file members seem to be leaning toward the viewpoint that a budget will be accomplished.
That being said, Bryant believes it’s more advantageous for leadership on both sides to get a budget in place.
