The Mount Vernon Township High School board of education met Monday for their regularly scheduled meeting. The big topic discussed by the board was cell phone policy for the 2018-19 school year.
Currently, the MVTHS handbook states cell phones shall not be used unless authorized by a teacher.
However, the board and administration are discussing a complete cell phone ban for next year.
Board members, administrators, and teachers traveled to Centralia high school to observe their total cell phone ban earlier in the year.
The board is still discussing whether students will be allowed to carry cellular devices in a backpack while turned off, or if cell phones will be completely banned from the campus.
The board will vote on the new policy at their meeting next month.
