Illinois State Police continue to investigate a Friday afternooon crash that injured one person in Saline County.
Officials say around 3:50 p.m., 36-year-old Cortez D. Ellis of Harrisburg was driving his car south on U.S. Route 45 – north of McDermott Road – when he attempted to pass several vehicles.
Ellis’ vehicle sideswiped another car he was passing – driven by 73-year-old Carolyn S. Miller of Harrisburg – as she was preparing to turn into her driveway.
Following the collision with Miller’s car, Ellis continued south on U.S. Route 45 and just north of Coon Lane, his car traveled off the roadway, struck a tree and a utility pole before coming to rest. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car.
An ambulance took Ellis to a local hospital before being airlifted to a regional hospital.
Miller and her passenger, 88-year-old Maurice D. Barnfield of Harrisburg, were not injured.
ISP says charges are pending.
